Kendall Hadley Legum is a multimedia artist whose work explores the relationships of the female body to nature, Her work involves the confrontation of manmade materials and natural materials, to uncover the unknowns of what it feels like to be a woman and try and explain the injustices of the body as it changes, as it is read through unfriendly lenses and taken apart to be become something it is not in nature. To take back the lense and transform the body is to find a new medicine for healing, by using abstracted language made from symbols of organic forms, Legum represents her own understanding of the bodies nature and the connection to the earth and all that is around us. Inspired by her upbringing in Bend, Oregon, Legum uses natural pigment, paperclay, oil, sticks, rocks, leaves to create work that aims to express the lack of control over ones body and mind and to find its place in connection to natural things rather than invented ones.
